The First Annual Texas Takeover comes to Nashville on Saturday, September 19, as the official AMERICANAFEST Texas Day Party, showcasing some of the best Americana artists from Texas. Presented by the Texas Music Office and Travel Texas, with support from Prekindle, Hear Fort Worth, Visit Dallas, and Kessler Presents, the free event takes place from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Skinny Dennis, 2635 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216. Open to the public, no AmericanaFest wristband is required to attend, making it an opportunity for music fans to experience Texas talent during one of the genre's premier festivals.

The inaugural event features performances by Next of Kin, Jess Williamson, Jaimee Harris, Judy Blank, Lemongrass, Kathryn Legendre, Matthew McNeal, Marcel, and Our Man In The Field (UK), along with surprise guest appearances. Special performances by Gracen Wynn, Remy Reilly, and Courtney Santana round out the lineup, celebrating the rich tradition and evolving sound of Texas Americana while introducing Nashville audiences to an exceptional roster of artists.

Joshua Ray Walker is a Dallas-born Country/Americana songwriter known for vivid, character-driven storytelling and a rich tenor that blends classic Texas tradition with a modern emotional edge. Since his 2019 debut, he has built a catalog defined by sharp writing, dark humor, and deep empathy for complicated people, earning national television appearances, multiple Grand Ole Opry performances, and more than 2,000 shows across the U.S. and Europe.
His sixth studio album, Ain’t Dead Yet, marks his most personal chapter to date. Recorded before, during, and after cancer treatment, (including sessions the day before lung surgery that could have permanently altered his voice), the record wrestles with mortality, gratitude, memory, and transformation. Sonically rooted in pedal steel, fiddle, and Walker’s signature guitar picking, it captures an artist confronting uncertainty with defiance , clarity, and hard-won joy.
Across every release, from early character portraits to ambitious concept records, Walker’s through-line remains the same: songs that tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. On Ain’t Dead Yet, he expands that hallmark into his most personal chapter yet, documenting a profound period of change and a hard-won second chance.

Hunter Flynn is a Kentucky-born singer-songwriter and visual artist whose work resonates with emotional honesty and a deep connection to Appalachian culture. Raised in Pulaski County, Flynn’s path to music and art wasn’t a straight line—it was forged through adversity and personal transformation. In early 2022, after surviving a life-altering car accident, he decided to fully embrace his creative passions, launching a music career rooted in authenticity, vulnerability, and soul.
Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and stories of Appalachia, Flynn blends elements of folk, country, soul, and gospel into a genre-defying sound he calls Appalachian Soul Music. His lyrics, oHen reflective and raw, tell stories of pain, redemption, resilience, and identity—underscored by his powerful vocals and minimalist arrangements. These qualities are showcased in his debut EP, Appalachian Soul, released in May 2023, which quickly gained traction for its emotional depth and stripped-back sincerity.
Flynn has performed at prominent venues and festivals throughout the United States and Europe, including the prestigious Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Kentucky, where he was honored as the Featured Artist in 2023. His growing influence in the Kentucky music community was further recognized in 2025 when he was named the Artist in Residence at the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame—a rare honor that reflects his cultural impact and artistic integrity.
In addition to music, Hunter Flynn is an accomplished visual artist, known for his evocative charcoal portraits that explore themes of memory, loss, and the human condition. His dual talents in music and art oHen intersect, as he uses both mediums to explore the complexities of identity and healing in post industrial Appalachia.
Hunter has shared stages with notable acts such as Zach Top, Wayne Flores, Jamie Johnson, Larry Fleet, Jackson Dean, and many others, yet remains committed to uplifting emerging voices and fostering a sense of community within the Appalachian arts scene. He often collaborates with other local musicians, writers, and visual arts, further cementing his role not just as a performer, but as a cultural connector and advocate.
